SACRED AND HISTORICAL BUILDINGS

In 1997 Targetti lit up the large external doors of the façade of Notre-Dame Cathedral that are still in perfect working order; today after 20 years Targetti has again been given the privilege of lighting  the 27 side chapels in the great Parisian cathedral. This is an integral part of a project to renovate the internal lighting in the cathedral that started in 2011 as part of events to celebrate its 850 years in collaboration with the lighting designer Armand Zadikian.

There were various challenges to face: ensuring the chapels were accessible to large numbers of visitors, enhancing and preserving all the historical and artistic heritage on display, ensuring a good level of lighting and luminance ratios for the television cameras that transmit mass every week and finally the legitimate desire to maintain sobriety as a sign of utmost respect for the building itself.

LEDO’ Targetti adjustable LED projectors were chosen to light the works of art on display inside all the chapels: vertical tracks equipped with black projectors with an elegant and discreet matte finish. This installation is highly versatile with the ability to vary the position of the fixtures on the vertical track; it has a flexible optical system – ranging from spot to very wide flood and individual fixtures can be dimmed according to needs. The high quality LED lamps the LEDO’ projectors are fitted with have excellent colour rendering while preserving the paintings from the risks of photo-damage.
